Okay, but is there any point in being free if you’re dead?

Y'all wanna be pulling receipts about something another blogger said in 2006 because it’s not that you give a single fuck about progress and changing minds and attitudes, but because you want internet brownie points for “dragging” someone else and looking mightier than though. BYE!
not to sound too millennial here but it annoys me so much when I’m at a restaurant and someone I’m with will complain about the service being slow like buddy pal it’s fine it’s not that important
You didn’t waited 40 minutes for a dinner before haven’t you?
i have but i also have, like, real problems
I waited well over an hour for food once at IHOP, because it kept coming out inedible.
We finally asked what was going on, and it turns out that the ONLY cook had been working for 36 hours straight with only a short nap.
I ordered the easiest thing to make, tipped the waitress heavily, and sent her back to the cook with a $10 tip for them, too, AFTER watching the 24-hour restaurant close the doors so that they could send the cook home for some rest.
Yeah, I’ve waited 40 minutes for my dinner, and I didn’t ask for a discount, we tipped VERY well, and sent the cook our best wishes.
If something goes wrong with your restaurant experience, consider that there are real people back there, working under god knows what conditions.
That may be, but I have eaten in a restaurant, an incredibly expensive and fancy restaurant, and despite the fact that there was more than enough staff, and only three other tables eating that night, we waited for over an hour and a half for our main, which arrived cold, and for some members of our group, incorrect.
The serving staff had been standing around literally doing nothing for a lot of the time that we were waiting, to the extent that they had not cleared the empty water bottles or even all of the plates from our starter, which we had also had to wait for.
When we brought up the issue, the maitre d’ attempted multiple times to fob us off, telling us that he would ensure that the rest of our experience would be positive, but then not actually doing anything about it. They continued the terrible service by attempting to serve desert, late, having not cleared the table from the main course. Several of the deserts were also incorrect. When we went up at the end, having complained several times during the meal, having reiterated more than once that the service was not good enough for multiple reasons, the maitre d’ still tried to charge us the full price. It was only when we objected and complained AGAIN, that we received an apology and a discount off of the price. The ENTIRE time that we were there, all of the staff, senior and junior members, took the piss, disregarded most of our concerns and requests and in general acted like our expectation of a punctual and pleasant meal was entirely unreasonable.
We don’t usually eat out, and certainly not at a restaurant as fancy and expensive as this one, we were splashing out because I had graduated from college. At such an expensive restaurant, we would have expected very good service from responsibly treated hosts, it was certainly not an IHOP with severely overworked and probably underpaid chefs and wait staff.
While I do not disagree with naamahdarling’s sentiment, I also would like to point out that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with being dissatisfied with sub-par service. It’s not “millennial”, you’re not “oversensitive” or a “snowflake”. Paying money for a service and being served badly is no different to buying something and having it be badly made, not fit for purpose or just the complete wrong item. If I pay €100 for a jacket, I expect it to not fall apart immediately. Similarly, if I pay €100 for a meal, I expect the food to be cooked well, hot, served on time, by someone who is paying attention and not sniggering with other members of staff. And just as I would complain and get my money back of a €100 jacket fell apart, I would expect to be able to complain and not pay full price for a meal that was cold, served over 30 minutes late or by serving staff who are not taking their jobs seriously.
And before anyone says anything, I work in the service industry and have done for years. I am currently a Barista, but have been a Waitress, a Busgirl, a Dishwash and a Deli Server. I know how difficult these jobs can be, but I also know there is a difference between being overworked and willfully negligent. There is NO excuse for the latter. EVER.
